Wilma Jean Gilliam, age 71, of Cumberland, KY, passed from this life on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born January 15, 1947, unto the union of the late Earsel and Louise Halcomb Cress in Blackey, Kentucky. She believed in the Freewill Baptist faith.
Wilma was a loving wife, mother, and mamaw. She spent her time cooking, cleaning and made sure everyone that came through her door had something to eat and wouldn’t let you leave hungry. We all loved her fried chicken and macaroni salad. Her favorite past times includes, crocheting, quilting, tending a garden and canning what she and Bill grew. Everyone will remember her for her love of all babies, grandchildren, family, friends, her smile and laughter. She will be truly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William David Gilliam, brother, Herman Cress, sisters, Leaxine Williams and Arminta Bush.
She leaves to mourn her passing son, William Gilliam (Sherry) of Middlesboro, KY, daughters, Helen “Pebbles” Coots (Richard) of Linefork, KY and Ann Marie Gilliam of Owensboro, KY, brothers, Verlin Cress of Cornettsville, KY, Dwayne Bush and Lyndon Bush both of Lexington, KY, sisters, Christine Holbrook of Leatherwood, KY, Josephine Halcomb, of Ulvah, KY, Geraldine Yeary, of Partridge, KY, nine grandchildren: Tyler and Jason Coots, Tamara, Makayla, and Braelyn Gilliam, Mareshah Springer, Justin, Larisa, and Coty McDaniels, two great-grandchildren: Jackson and Carson Coots and a host of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made towards the funeral expense to Cumberland Valley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 682, Cumberland, Kentucky 40823.
