Walter Rogers Obituary

Walter Rogers, age 91 of Cumberland, Kentucky, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky.

He was born on June 3, 1932, into the union of his late parents, King David and Louise Parker Rogers in Manchester, Kentucky.  He was a retired coal miner for International Harvester Coal Company.

Walter believed in the Church of God faith and loved reading his Bible.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting guns, listening to Bluegrass music and watching his favorite Western movies and “Andy Griffith Show” on television. Walter was known for his comedic personality, whenever he would end a phone conversation with someone, he would always say, “Toodly Doo," leaving a little humor and placing a smile on their face.   He was a kind, loving and generous man that shall never be forgotten.

He is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Norma Jean Finns Rogers, daughters, Wanda Rogers, Deborah Dunson, brothers, John, George and Theo, sisters, Edith and Shelby.

Left to cherish his memory, sons, Billy (Kim) Rogers of Cumberland, Kentucky, Garvey David Rogers of Lynch, Kentucky, daughter, Janice (Ronnie) Smith of Morehead, Kentucky, sister, Anna Vera Cope of Benham, Kentucky, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

It was Mr. Roger’s wish to be cremated and no formal service is to be held.  He was a man that didn’t like a fuss and just wanted to be remembered for being a good neighbor, friend and a devoted loving man to his entire family.
