Sam Smith, Jr., age 83, of Linefork, Kentucky, received his angel wings on Wednesday, June 27th, 2024. He was most affectionately known by his family as “Uncle Junior.” He was born on January 4, 1941, unto the union of his late parents, Samuel and Ora Creech Smith.
Sam was a retired coal miner with over thirty-seven years of dedicated service in the coal industry.
He believed in the Pentecostal faith and had given his life to God. He enjoyed the simple things, such as mowing his lawn, watching his favorite Western movie, “Big Jake,” ginsenging, fishing, hunting and spending time with all his family. He was a quiet, soft spoken, humble man that would always help someone when needed. He will forever be missed, but never forgotten.
Other than his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sisters, Verda Lusk, Nila Browning, Faye Springer, Mabel Plueger, brothers, Virgil “Budge” Smith, Estill Smith, Bicel Smith, Gerald Callahan, Olan Smith.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 30th, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cumberland Valley Funeral Home with church services beginning at 7 p.m. with Elder Glenn Cornett.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 1, 2024, at the funeral home at 12 noon with Elder Glenn Cornett officiating.
Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery at Linefork, Kentucky.
Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
