Robert "Bob" Lunsford

Robert Lunsford was born on February 26, 1928, on High Street in his
beloved Lynch. He passed from this life on January 3,2018, at Tri-Cities
Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was the youngest child of Forest Nelson and
Wanna Hunsucker Lunsford. He was spoiled by his sisters, Elizabeth,
Beaulah Katherine, Laura, Vivian and his brother Buford. All of them
preceded him in death.

Bob had several jobs while growing up in Lynch, among them were
delivering telegrams on his bike during World War II and taking up tickets
at the theater. He attended Lynch High School, where he loved playing
football. On April 1, 1950, he married his high school sweet heart, Wanda
Reedy. They were completely devoted to one another until her death in
2009.

At the age of 21, he went to work for US Steel as a welder, that career
lasted 42 years. Upon his retirement, he began volunteering at Portal 31. He
loved to meet new people and tell them about Lynch and the mines.

Bob's life was an example of the Christian life. He was a devoted and life-
long member of the Lynch United Methodist Church. He served the church
in many capacities including; Sunday School superintendent, trustee,
member of the board and scoutmaster of the church's troop. One of his
greatest joys in life was to hear his wife sing at church.

He is survived by his daughter, Ellen and husband Jim Poore of Daphne, AL,
his daughter Cheryl and husband John Hall of Elizabethtown, and son, Jeff
of Harlan. Three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018, from 2:00 until 4:00PM
at the Lynch United Methodist Church. A celebration of his life will follow
the visitation officiated by his life-long friend and fellow football player,
Hugh Webb. Burial will be on Monday, January 8 at Powell Valley
Memorial Gardens. Meet at the funeral home at 10:30 AM if you wish to
attend. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Lynch United Methodist Church,
PO Box 816, Lynch, KY 40855. Friends and family will serve as pall
bearers.

The Johnson Funeral Home of Lynch has been serving the Lunsford family
for more than eighty years.
