Phillip Wayne McKnight, Sr., age 72 of Cumberland, Kentucky, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on December 31, 2022, at the Holston Manor Rehabilitation Center in Kingsport, Tennessee, following a long illness.
He was born on January 6th, 1950, to his late parents, Melburn and Eugenia Faye McKnight in Lynch, Kentucky. He was a retired coal miner and member of the Lewis Creek Pentecostal Church.
Phillip enjoyed dealing in salvage items, yard sales and loved NASCAR racing. He was a decorated United States Armed Forces Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Phillip served his Country proud.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Frank, James, Charles McKnight, sisters, Joyce Mullins, Judy McKnight, and Sherry McKnight.
He leaves to mourn his passing, son, Phillip Wayne McKnight, Jr., daughter, Deborah (Kenny) Wyatt all of Cumberland, Kentucky, brother, Timothy Michael (Joyce) McKnight of Partridge, Kentucky, granddaughter, Rachel Wyatt of Cumberland, Kentucky, special cousins, Donna Sparks of Kingsport, Tennessee and Becky (Frank) Orick of Cumberland, Kentucky.
In following Mr. McKnightâs wishes, his family will receive his Military Rites provided by the Distinguished Harlan Honor Guard, on Friday, January 13, 2023, beginning at 12 noon, at the Veterans Memorial Park, U.S. 119, Cumberland, Kentucky.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Lewis Creek Pentecostal Church with Pastor Ron Oplinger officiating.
Due to the weather : the Celebration of Life has been postponed to Monday, January 16, 2023 at 12 noon at the church.
