Nathaniel Ray Wilson, SR was born to Willie and Minnie Wilson, on August 3, 1940 in Pineville, Kentucky.
He went to his Heavenly home on Monday, November 9, 2020, while surrounded by his loving family.
Ray attended and graduated from East Benham School (Benham Rams). Ray joined church at an early age and was a member of the Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, where enjoyed singing with The Messengers and then with the Spirituals. Ray enjoyed Sunday school and studying the word.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Minnie Wilson, stepmother, Louise Wilson, brothers, Willie Wilson, Willie C. Wilson, John (Bubble) Wilson, step brothers, Clifford and Albert Johnson, his mother-in-law, whom he loved, Katie Quarles Baskin Carnes.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Ruthie Mae (Quarles) Wilson, children, Mary (James) Wilson, Lynch, KY, Nathaniel Ray Wilson, JR, Benham, KY, Larry (Tamashia) Wilson, Las Vegas, Nevada, Alan (Candance) Wilson, Atlanta, Georgia, Ewanna Denise Wilson, Atlanta, Georgia, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, sisters, Veronica (Orlando) Johnson, Atlanta, Georgia, Theresa (Cleveland) Lewis, Augusta, Georgia, brothers, Grady (Linda) Wilson and Cornelius (Tonya) Wilson all of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kenny (Debbie) Wilson, Atlanta, Georgia, Terry (Beatrice) Wilson, Augusta, Georgia, Timothy Wilson, Augusta, Georgia, sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Ronald) Brack, Lexington, KY, Edna (James) Sullivan, Atlanta, Georgia, Andrea (George) Massey, Benham, KY, Gwen Baskin Crosby, Dayton, Ohio, brothers-in-law, Sanford (Ann) Baskin, Benham, KY, Tony Baskin and Milton (Marcia) Baskin, both of Dayton, Ohio, and his very special son and caretaker, Maurice Cook, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Ray loved his relative and friends, many of whom he considered as his own brothers and sisters and their children as his nephew and nieces. He always had a sweet and kind word for everyone. Truly, he will be missed by his family and friends and singing his special songs, “Shine on Me, “and if you miss me singing down here, then come on up to Bright Glory, I’ll be singing up there and Yes, Jesus Loves Me.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 14, 2020, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church
with Funeral services following at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ronnie Hampton officiating.
Anyone attending must wear some form of facial covering/mask and practice social distancing.
