Morris Lewis, 81, of Big Jakes Branch, Gordon; passed away Monday, February 7, 2022, in Hazard, KY.
Morris was retired from U.S. Steel and MSHA as a federal mine inspector. He was also a long-time Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
When he wasn’t at work, you could find Morris in the great outdoors gardening, riding ATV’s, fishing, hunting and raising cattle. He was the past Fire Chief at the Gordon Fire Department, a Kentucky Colonel and was a member of the Nolan Lodge #806.
Morris was a member of the Kings Creek Community Church and believed in the Baptist faith.
He was born August 26, 1940, in Gilley, KY to the late David and Susie Halcomb Lewis.
Survivors include his wife of 61 1/2 years, Vonda Thompson Lewis, Gordon; two sons, Randall (Sandra) Lewis, Hyden; Robert (Willa) Lewis, Whitesville, NC; two daughters, Pamela (Fred) Frazier, Gordon; Lora (Jack) Short, Beattyville; a sister-in-law and special caregiver, Wilma Thompson; and sister Phyllis Goins, Clay City, KY.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert "Ned" Robert, Lloyd and Roscoe Lewis: and two sisters, Bertha Layton and Ida Mae Swicegood.
Nine grandchildren also survive, Dustin Asher, David Short, Randall Lee Lewis II, Justin Gross, Reagan Weedman, Brett Gross, Kyle Lewis, Andrew Lewis, Suzannah Frazier and a host of great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted from the Kings Creek Community Church on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Dotson presiding. Visitation will begin at 5:30 pm. Masonic Rites will be observed at the conclusion of the funeral service.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Morris Lewis Cemetery in Gilley on Wednesday, February 9th at 1 p.m. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
