Letha Janette McCarty

Letha Janette McCarty, age 96, of Benham, KY, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Tri-City Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Cumberland, KY.

She was born in Martinsville, IL on August 10, 1929, to Gilbert Chapman and Ardith Tingley. She was baptized at an early age and remained faithful throughout her life.

Letha was a deeply loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy was caring for her family. She filled her home with the comfort of home-cooked meals,
a love of reading, treasured stories, and the beauty of pieces she carefully sewed by hand.

In addition to her parents, Letha is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Charles Robert McCarty; daughter, Janet Coslet; son-in-law, Ian Giles; granddaughter, Melinda Barrett; and grandsons, Robert McCarty and Jason Carter; a brother, Vern Chapman; and a sister, Wanda Carmen.
 

Letha is survived by her daughter, Janice Giles; son, Dwayne McCarty (Kaye); daughter, Yvonne Creech (Troy); sister, Marolyn Hollinrake; brother, Bert D. Collier (Donna); sister, Thelma Davis; a special family friend she considered a son, Cy Barrett (Sandy); seven grandchildren; Jennifer, James, Jgeorgia, Antoinette, Angela, Ryan, and Jessica; many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall, Illinois, with services beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery.
