Respected Paramedic Kenneth Edward Ely, age 60 of Lynch, Kentucky, passed suddenly at his home on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.
Ken graduated from James A. Cawood High School in 1978 and later studied at Cumberland College in Williamsburg.
Ken began his professional career as a police officer for the City of Cumberland and then later transitioned over to Emergency Medical Services as an E.M.T. and later a Paramedic. It was as a Medic that Ken garnered the respect bestowed upon him from his co-workers and the community for his kindness and compassionate care. He was described as "a friend to so many and a hero to other," by co-workers.
He began his Medic career with Lifecare in Lynch and later worked in many capacities for several ambulance services until his most recent employment at Bell County E.M.S. Ken was a true “giver” in every sense of the word. He excelled in everything he attempted in life. He always said, “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right!” He dedicated the biggest part of himself to helping others in need.
Aside from his professional career, Ken was a wonderful husband, son, brother, and friend. He was an avid firearm enthusiast and enjoyed playing video games. He also had a passion for photography and was previously active in the Harlan County Photography Guild and served in the Kentucky National Guard.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth, and Gwen Collins Ely.
He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Lenell of Lynch, KY, sister, Lisa Ely of Wallins, KY and brother, John Ely of Harlan, KY, his EMS family and a multitude of other friends.
A private service will be held Monday, April 26, 2021, at the Cumberland Valley Funeral Home with Arnold Hammons officiating.
Due to Covid, the family has decided to have a Memorial service at a later date for his EMS family and friends.
Cumberland Valley Funeral Home is Honored to Serve the Ely Family.
