James Arvil Royce of Circleville, Ohio passed away on April 14, 2022, at 86 years, 11 months, and 5 days. He was born at Smoot Creek, Kentucky on May 10th,1935 as the second of nine children to the union of the late Acey and Ella Boggs Royce.
“Arvil”, as he was known to family and friends, was a graduate of Whitesburg High School and had lived in Letcher and Harlan Counties for much of his life until relocating to Ohio 20+ years ago.
Arvil loved country music and television shows and always had a story or joke to share. He was gifted with a memory for details and became a “go-to” person for family information. He would be the first one to tell you how proud he was to have been a Mama’s boy and how much he missed family members who had already passed on. He never lost his sense of optimism and was very appreciative of the care he received from the folks at Circleville Post-Acute Nursing Home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Lenzy, Acey Jr, Dudley, and Paul Royce, and 1 sister, Wanda Gibson.
Arvil is survived by his brother, Donald Royce of Romeoville, Illinois, and two sisters, Madge Sexton of Jackhorn, Kentucky, and Barbara Schaef of Columbia, South Carolina, as well as several nephews and nieces and their families.
We take comfort in the fact that Arvil is with our Lord Jesus Christ. He can now move and breathe freely again in Heaven and is reunited with loved ones.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 20th at the Cumberland Valley Funeral Home beginning at 10 am until the funeral hour of 12 noon with Brother Glenn Cornett officiating.
Burial will follow at Peaceful Acres Cemetery in Hiram, Kentucky.
Cumberland Valley Funeral Home is Honored to Serve the Royce Family.
