Helen Pennington Smith, age 84, of Cumberland, KY, departed this life on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY.
Helen was a cook for Cumberland High School and worked many years at several restaurants in the area, including the Pine View, Big Top, as well as having her own restaurant, The Golden Nugget for a while.
She was well known for her cooking and especially her homemade pies. She was greatly loved and will forever be missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Della Wagers Pennington, husband, Virgil Smith, sons, Rodney Hale, Sam Smith, daughter, Vickey Hale, brother, Ronnie Pennington.
She is survived by daughters, Gail (Hassell) Holcomb of Nicholasville, KY, Tonya (Terry) Lewis of Gordon, KY, Sheila (Jeff) Gibbs of Partridge, KY, sons, Danny (Tena) Smith of Cumberland, KY, Virgil Owen (Julie) Smith of Blair, KY, daughter/granddaughter, Melissa (Jim Bob) Miniard of Bledsoe, KY, brothers, Roy Pennington of Clutts, KY, Ralph Pennington of Cumberland, KY, sister, Jeanette Hendrix of Cumberland, KY, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, as well as a host of other family and friends.
