Gregory "Chili Bean" L. Childers

Gregory L. “Chili Bean” Childers, age 63 of Cumberland, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Gregory was a disabled coal miner and a Mason with the Fields Masonic Lodge No. 832 F& AM. He believed in the Baptist faith and was quite the outdoorsman. He enjoyed turkey hunting, deer hunting, fishing, hunting ginseng, and anything to do with nature.

Gregory had a huge heart. He would help anyone by giving them the shirt off his back. He was a caring man and was stern in his ways. He had strong opinions and did not mind arguing that he was always right. Gregory enjoyed good conversation and loved his family more than anything. He called daily just to make sure they didn’t need anything. Although his time on earth was way too short, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Gregory is preceded in death by his father, Fred Childers, Sr., son, Jeremiah Childers, brothers, James Robert “Bob” Childers and Larry Wayne Childers.

He leaves behind a devoted mother, Lelia Childers of Cumberland, Kentucky, a loving daughter, Lelia Childers of Harlan, Kentucky, a brother, Fred Childers, Jr. of Lynch, Kentucky, sisters, Linda Smith of Staffordsville, Kentucky, Susie (Tony) Clark and Carolyn (Paul) Gilliam all of Cumberland, Kentucky, a grandchild, Lelia Nichole Childers of Lynch, Kentucky and his best friend, Johnnie Rogers of Cumberland, Kentucky, a host of other relatives and friends.

Honoring Gregory's wishes, there will be no services, but please remember his wonderful family as they navigate life without “Chili Bean.”
