Glenn “Sparky” Sparkmon, age 84 of Gordon, Kentucky, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 29, 1938, in Defeated Creek, KY. He was the son of the late Arthur Sparkmon and Vergellan Sumpter Divine. Glenn loved his country and served it with pride, retiring from the United States Air Force as a Tech Sergeant. He was a Mason and member of the Nolen Lodge Masonic Home #806. He had also worked as a surface miner and equipment operator. He was well known for being a Master Carpenter, there wasn’t much he could not build. He was a faithful Christian and devoted member of the Hurricane Gap Baptist Church. He helped orchestrate the creation of the Hurricane Gap Park and the Gordon Volunteer Fire Department. Glenn loved his community and was always trying to give back in some way or another. He loved his bluegrass music, hunting and his wife’s cooking, especially her chicken and dumplings. He loved to sit and talk about his life happenings to further his wisdom to the younger generation. He was so proud of his children, grandchildren and boasted often.
Glenn had a unique smile that could light up a room. He was gifted with many talents and used every one of them daily. He lived his life to the fullest and gave God the Glory for it. Our community has lost a part of its foundation, but his memory will carry on forever.
He is preceded in death other than his parents, infant daughter, Carol Sue Sparkmon, son, Michael Steven Sparkmon, sister, Cinda Sparkmon Karjala, brother, Tony Divine, granddaughter, Allee Lewis.
He leaves to carry on his memory, dedicated wife of forty-one years, Labraida Miniard Sparkmon of Gordon, KY, sons, Jimmie Sparkmon of Hampton, VA, Chris (Misty) Lewis of Gordon, KY, Brett (Bryan LeFrancois) Sparkmon of Eolia, KY, brother, Dale (Margie) Divine of The Villages, FL, sister, Debbie (Fred) Wintermantel of Tabb, VA, grandchildren, Sheila Conrad, Jacob & Tayler Sparkmon, Jared & Samantha Sparkmon, Rylee Lewis, Braxton Conrad, Blake Conrad, Jayden Sparkmon, Hunter Sparkmon, Grayson Sparkmon, Elias Sparkmon and soon to be granddaughter, Solara Sparkmon, other survivor, Ritsuko (Jon) Christiansen of Fayetteville, NC, sisters-in-law, Karen Lynn Fields of Gordon, KY, Eiko Robertson of Fayetteville, NC, several nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members.
