Geneva Lee Irvin Jones, a woman who lived 90 years of life on her own terms and loved with her whole heart, passed peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in the mountains she called home. Born in Cloverlick, Kentucky, to the late Robert Lee and Macey Barker Irvin, Geneva was 90 years young and had packed those years full of laughter, love, and more than a few unfiltered opinions.
Geneva never met a thought she didn't share, if she thought it, you heard it, and her family wouldn't have had it any other way. Her plain-spoken honesty was as refreshing as a Kentucky breeze, and her generous heart was always open to those in need. She found joy in life's simple pleasures: watching the birds visit her garden, tending to her flowers with devoted hands, and creating meals that became family legend. Her homemade chicken and dumplings weren't just food, they were love served in a bowl, and anyone lucky enough to taste them knew it.
As a devoted wife and mother, Geneva tended to her home and family with quiet strength and unwavering dedication. She found her greatest joy in her family, especially her beloved grandson, Joseph, whom she loved more than life itself and showed it every chance she got. Their bond was something truly special, a testament to the depth of love Geneva carried in her heart.
A lifelong resident of Harlan County, Geneva loved her mountain home and the community that surrounded her. She lived unapologetically, laughed freely, and left an impression on everyone who knew her.
Geneva was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Joseph Hugh Jones (March 21, 2003); daughter, Tracy Lynn Jones; sisters, Bernice Smith, Retha McCurry, Wynette "Annie" Davis and her husband Leonard, and Faye Blevins.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: son, Joseph Hugh Jones II and his wife Sandy; brother, Ray Irvin; grandchildren, Joseph Hugh Jones III and Jayden Blair; and great-grandchild, Violet Rae Jones.
Following her wishes, there will be no services. Geneva lived life her way until the very end.
