Emily Jean Shell Cornett was called home on Monday, February 21, 2022, at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born on December 13, 1932, making her blessed by the Lord with 89 years on this earth.
She was a charter member of the Hurricane Valley Primitive Baptist Church. She loved to hear and sing the old-time hymns, her favorites included, “Not Afraid to Die”, and “Why not tonight”.
Emily was a faithful servant of the Lord. She enjoyed going to church, sitting in her favorite pew, singing, and listening to the word of God. She was a wonderful woman that loved with all her heart.
Her departing has left a void in the hearts of her family and friends, but God gained a beautiful angel this morning.
Preceding her in death, husband, Otis Cornett, parents, Willie and Polly Shell, brothers, Henry and Lonnie Shell, sisters, Nancy Walker, Edna Cornett, Edith Shell, grandson, David Allen Cornett, daughter-in-law, Grace E. Cornett, son-in-law, Dale Middleton, daughter-in-law, Delores Cornett.
Emily met and married the love of her life, the late Otis Cornett on October 7th 1950, unto this union five children were born, Justice (Ann) Cornett, Glenn Cornett, Allen (Trish) Cornett, Sharon (Jack) Ison, Margaret Middleton, brother, Ray Shell, grandchildren, Micaela Jane (Jacob) Cornett, April Joy (James) Smith, Misty (Tony) Cooke, Michelle (Gary) Farmer, Kevin (Samantha) Ison, Jessica (Denny) Thornsberry, great-grandchildren, Allison June Smith, Abby and Peyton Sherman, Kristopher Cornett, T. J. Cooke, Katlin (Austin) Schlafer, Kaylee (Ethan) Cooke, Autumn Farmer, Trenton and Colton Ison, Emily Thornsberry, and a great-great-grandchild on the way, baby Till.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at the Hurricane Valley Primitive Baptist Church beginning at 12 noon with church services at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at the church at 1 p.m. with Brothers, Glenn Cornett, Justice Cornett, Donnie Dixon, Dwight Lewis, and Fred Frazier officiating.
Burial will follow in the East Haven Cemetery in Gordon, KY.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
