Donald Ray Burton, Sr.

Donald Ray Burton, Sr. age 65 of Partridge, Kentucky, passed peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to the union of his late parents, Eugene and Imogene Scott Burton on January 5, 1958, in Lynch, Kentucky.   He was a retired coal miner for Arch Mines #37 in Cloverlick.  Donald was an avid fisherman, if you had his favorite Buzz Bait lure, he was ready to go.  He enjoyed hunting, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, keeping the cleanest vehicles in Letcher and Harlan Counties, watching Tom Brady and the New England Patriots play football, and was known to be very active in local politics.   If you were running for office, Donald was the man to talk to.  He had so many friends and relationships near and far that helped cultivate the elected officials we have in office today.  Donald’s most cherished love was his grandchildren.  He attended every sporting event they had and dedicated the biggest part of his days to them, from waking up in the morning to going to bed at night, his time was theirs and they held his heart.   He was full of life, love and wisdom.  If he told you something, it was true.  If he said he would do something, it was done.  He has left a legacy of honor, many acts of kindness and a multitude of memories that will carry his memory forever.

He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Nina Corrine, sister, Saundra Kaye Burton, special nephews, Shawn Travis and Stephen Todd Maggard. 

He leaves behind, two sons, Donnie Ray (Courtney) Burton, Andrew (Shelby) Burton, sisters, Linda Craiger, Sharon Burton, Debi Sexton and her late husband, Billy, special aunt, Wanda Burton Collier, three grandchildren, Braydon Burton, Jade Burton and Aniston Burton, a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church at 408 Spring Street, Cumberland, KY 40823.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 8, 2023, at 12 noon from the church with Brother Eddie Creech officiating.

Burial will follow in the Scott Cemetery in Cumberland, KY.

Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
