2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them that love his appearing.
Daisy Ray, formerly of Cumberland, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the age of 92, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was born into the union of her late parents, Green and Rose Lewis Cornett.
If you knew Daisy, then you knew she was one of the most giving, loving and caring people to ever grace this earth. She was a volunteer to the core, always working to help others less fortunate or just there to help lend a hand. She was very active in the community, such as being a leader and organizer for Girl Scouts of America for over twenty-five years, a devoted member of the Cumberland United Methodist Church, where she was always first to arrive, prepping the church for services and especially having hot coffee, doughnuts and kool-aid for the children. After her health declined in 2018, she moved to live with her daughter and became a member of the Georgetown United Methodist Church. At Cumberland UMC, she was known as "The Roll Lady," at church dinners, she made a delicious tray of her homemade yeast rolls. She also enjoyed quilting, hiking, gardening, wildflowers, birds, animals, spending time with family and trips to the Pine Mountain Settlement School, where she enjoyed nature and doing the things that meant so much. The most important statement that can be said about Daisy is, she was a Faithful Servant of the Lord. She accomplished so much in her precious life and we will forever be blessed by her presence. Now, she has gone on to receive her Heavenly reward.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Troy Edwin Ray, brothers, Virgil, Fred, Ralph and Tom Cornett.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Caryn (Whitney) Pate of Georgetown, Kentucky, brother, Ray (Patricia) Cornett of Gig Harbor, Washington, grandchildren, James Wesley Pate and Stephen (Cheyanne) Pate, great grandchild, Miles Elliott Pate all of Georgetown, Kentucky.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 20th, 2023, beginning at 12 noon until the funeral hour of 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cumberland Valley Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Cornett and Rev. Troy Poff officiating.
Burial will follow in the Peaceful Acres Cemetery in Hiram, Kentucky.
