Billy Joe “Bird” Boggs, Sr., age 72 of Cumberland, Kentucky passed from this life on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, following a long illness.
He was born on October 5, 1951, to the union of his parents, the late Hiram, Jr., and Marjorie Shotton Boggs. He was a retired coal miner for Arch Mining and Resources of Kentucky, where he worked for over 27+ years. Being a life-long resident here, he had a much-appreciated love for the Black Mountain area. He enjoyed hunting, four wheeling, skeet shooting, playing an occasional game of pool with friends, telling ghost stories and enjoying life. He had a serious personality but loved to joke, laugh and have a good time. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory, son, Billy Joe Boggs, Jr., of Cumberland, Kentucky, daughter, Amy Boggs of Lynch, Kentucky, brothers, Jeff (Melanie) Boggs of Lynch, Kentucky, Bobby (Sherry) Boggs of Alabama, sisters, Elizabeth (Gary) Cinnamon and Stella (George) Vanover all from Maynardville, Tennessee, Wanda (Tom) Sheback of Berea, Kentucky, Margie Jane (Danny) McKnight of Cumberland, Kentucky, a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Boggs had made his wishes known prior to his passing. He wanted no services of any kind. His children have decided to honor his request. However, a family gathering may be scheduled and announced at a later date.
