Barney G. Plowman, age 93, of Cumberland, formerly of Whitesburg, Kentucky, passed from this life on Thursday, March 16th, 2023, with his son by his side.
He was born on November 8th, 1929, in Seco, Kentucky unto his late parents, Barney and Nancy Combs Plowman. Gene, as most affectionately knew him, had an uplifting spirit and a smile to brighten the day. He and his late wife, Ruby, loved to take their daily strolls through town, stopping to visit local store owners and people passing by, never meeting a stranger. Gene served his country proud in the Korean War as a Corporal in the United States Army. He was a member of the local V.F.W. Post 5171. He retired from American Airlines as a Fleet Serviceman and had worked also as a coal miner. He believed in the Baptist faith and attended the Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church until his health declined.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby Hooker Plowman.
He leaves to mourn his passing, son, Jeff Plowman of Lebanon, Tennessee, sisters, Barbara Collins of Florida and Clara May Lipps of Virginia, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Plowman’s wishes were that all services be private.
