Ann "Ain'yee" Marie Smith Allen was born October 13,1935, in Lynch, KY. She departed this life
on March 29,2018, at the ARH Regional HealthCare Hospital in Harlan, KY.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ben "Choc" Allen; her parents, William McKinley Smith and
Emma Mae Smith; seven sisters; Pauline, Geraldine, Shirley, Jayne, Bettye, Wilma and Juanita; a brother,
William "Kenneth" McKinley Smith; three children, Jerry, Anthony, and Deborah; and a son-in-law, Carl
E. Ward.
Ann professed hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of Goode Temple A.M.E.
Zion Church and later a member of Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as an
Usher "Official Greeter" and a member of the Culinary Committee.
Ann was a lifelong resident of Lynch. She had an outstanding memory and was the "unofficial
historian" of Lynch. Her ready smile brought cheer and brightness to all with whom she came in
contact. She will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and friends and to her church.
She was a member of the Eastern KY Social Club; The Daughters of Elks #108; Pilgrim Rest
Chapter O.E.5. #95; Court of Calanthe #88; Election Judge, and a Kentucky Colonel.
Ann leaves to cherish her memory, two devoted daughters, Drena Thomas, Lynch, KY and Angela
Ward, Louisville, KY; three sisters, Maxine Ray, Chicago, IL; Emma Jean Saunders, Henderson, NV; and
Doris Mapps, Dayton, OH; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends.
She also leaves to cherish her memory a devoted nephew, Paul Smith; devoted friends, Sharon
Parker, Donald and Benny Massey, Patrick Perry, Robert Hood, and her best friend, Alma Stephens of
Cleveland, OH.
Paul Smith, Michael Ellington, Donald Massey, Benny Massey and Herman Dunson will serve as pallbearers.
